Braskem is strengthening its industrial cybersecurity by implementing Rockwell Automation’s SecureOT Platform. This initiative aims to provide real-time visibility into operational technology (OT) assets across more than 39 global facilities.

The partnership addresses the growing concern of cybersecurity in manufacturing, which has shifted from an IT issue to a critical operational challenge. Rockwell Automation’s latest report indicates that cybersecurity is the second leading external risk for manufacturers, a threat expected to grow with increased digital transformation and the integration of IT and OT systems.

Arron Nelson, industrial cybersecurity & infrastructure specialist at Braskem, highlighted the difficulty in identifying connected devices and assessing associated risks within OT environments. He stated that evolving cyber threats, including those utilizing artificial intelligence, necessitate enhanced visibility for informed decision-making. Nelson added that SecureOT provides a better understanding of OT assets, enabling a more proactive approach to securing critical operations.

Since its deployment, the vendor-neutral SecureOT Platform has led to significant improvements in Braskem’s operational risk management. The platform facilitates maintaining an up-to-date asset inventory across OT environments, expedites the prioritization of vulnerability remediation, and supports compliance efforts during audits.

Within the initial eight months of deployment, SecureOT Platform has been implemented in over 39 industrial facilities worldwide. During this period, Braskem has mapped and cataloged more than 3,000 assets. The company has achieved 100% project preparation and 95% infrastructure readiness.

Rick Kaun, global director of cybersecurity services at Rockwell Automation, emphasized the importance of visibility in securing industrial operations. He noted that companies like Braskem are adopting the SecureOT Platform for its asset-centric and contextual inventory capabilities. This approach moves away from outdated or manual methods toward automated visibility, allowing organizations to effectively address global OT cybersecurity challenges.
